Against the background of a cumulation of local problems, the analysis focuses on different attitudes among the majority population concerning the integration of Turks as well as the repercussions these attitudes have for the acceptance of a national integration policy. Based on a survey conducted in Duisburg, Wuppertal and Münster the authors want to show that the readiness on the part of the German majority to integrate the Turkish minority correlates negatively with the rise of local problems. This result means that a comprehensive national integration policy must go beyond the naturalization of people of Turkish origin. What is needed is a combination of the integration of minorities with that of parts of the majority population.
